While talking about her early life, Marcela Baccarim said: “I’ve always been thin, I was vain, and I liked fashion. When I had my son at 24, I gained more than 30 kilos. One year, I was thin; the next, I was fat; that was a shock for me. I didn’t want to be fat.”
Dealing with the weight was hard for her, so she decided it was best to go back to her prior weight. “I went on diets, took medication, worked out, but couldn’t go back. I even got neurotic with my marriage. I started not wanting to leave the house anymore. I wanted to hide because people saw me and didn’t believe I was that size.” Then, the comeback came with the support of her husband and mother, who encouraged Baccarim to respect herself the way she should.
She continued, “When I saw that I couldn’t lose weight anymore, I started following plus-size models on social media, and then my husband asked whether I wanted to try my career in this. Being a model was a dream I had, but I had never taken it forward“, she revealed. “She was working as a salesperson then. She approached an agency in Londrina that was looking for plus-size models. They liked my photos, so I started working for companies in Londrina and the region.”
Marcela Baccarim was 29 years old when he started working as a model and participating in competitions. “I competed for Miss Brasil Plus Size Oficial 2014; my model was 48, the same body I am maintaining now, and I represented Paraná. Winning the pageant encouraged me. I felt happy and content with who I am.”
With her modeling dream come true, she never imagined that these extra pounds would bring her fame and happiness. She said, “I like myself better now than I did when I was skinny, and people just don’t believe it. A fat woman being happy with her own body generates debates,” she sighed in disbelief.
Marcela Baccarim is a successful model, but all this would not have happened if she hadn’t accepted and liked herself as she is. She continued, “Today I wear any clothes, I wear a bikini, I don’t have a problem with that anymore. But it didn’t happen overnight; it was a slow process until I understood that perfection doesn’t exist. People just need to be happy.”
