Olenia started modeling at the age of nine. She was very passionate about modeling but the industry was always directed towards smaller figures. She thought she did not fit in that category, so she struggled with her body image for a while as she was constantly told by her peers and her superiors that she was “beautiful but too heavy.”
She did not get to sign with any agency for over two years, and she decided not to pursue modeling but to continue her studies. After a few years, she realized that she was truly passionate about modeling and felt that her size was not going to define her. She started training for beauty pageants and she loved having the opportunity to represent full-figured women. Olenia continued taking modeling lessons and attempted to promote self-love through social media.
She continued: “It is still a constant struggle because social media is a very dark place but as long as I am transparent with my audience, I can help at least one individual and that makes it worth it to me.“
Fast forward to 2020, Olenia realized that consumers demanding more relatable bodies now and it was her chance to step in and show the fashion world that there is no definition of what size a model should be. Her goal throughout modeling is to make others (particularly plus-sized women) feel confident and beautiful because they can relate to her image. She says, “Your size is not going to stop you from reaching your dreams and loving yourself to the fullest potential”.
She continued building up her brand by showcasing her body and herself to help other women like her gain confidence and feel better about themselves. After collaborating with numerous brands and constantly working together, Oleina started opening shows for Miami Swim Week and booking photoshoots all over the world. She stressed that young women need to understand that their size is not going to stop them from reaching their dreams and full potential.
Olenia shared that from constantly being told no because you’re too “fat” to being constantly judged and bullied by others, had a lot of impact on her mental health. During her journey, she discovered that she has PCOS. So, it is evident that her weight may never be going to change so she learned to love the body she was given. She said that she reached the point where she is now because she only focused on one goal, which is to inspire other women like her.
